INFORMATION
Apple Distribution Centre, Cork is a state-of-the-art complex with a large staff and many contractors arriving on a constant basis. The works included creating a high security partition wall from a large open plan warehouse unit. Due to what was going into this room, this was a high security area and so high grade security mesh was to be installed on top of the partition walls for added protection.
CONCEPT
Works included the construction of new stud walls to create a new and secure manufacturing lab. Once a bubble was in place, the working space to construct the wall became extremely limited.
Operatives needed to bring plasterboard slabs to the work station prior to erecting any studwork. Metal track was laid and fixed to the ground and studs were installed. OBF worked closely with the incumbent mechanical and electrical contractors onsite to allow them pull any cables, air services etc. through the stud work prior to closing up.
Once in place all plasterboard slabs were fitted to both sides of all walls. All services were sealed and letterbox details were installed as required.
CHALLENGE
This project posed many difficulties, this was predominantly due to the close proximity to a live apple workstation. The existing manufacturing lab involved staff working with small components in a clean work environment – an air tight bubble was required to ensure no dust or debris entered their work stations.
RESULT
Following the construction of the high security partition wall, one crew began all plastering while a second crew commenced with the install of a perforated security mesh on top of all the walls to the perimeter of the room.
Upon completion all walls were constructed to a high standard, providing a fully enclosed secure room. One double set of doors fitted at the entrance to the room was connected up to the existing swipe access system. An additional emergency exit door was fitted to the rear of the room.
