INFORMATION
UPS is a global leader in logistics, offering a broad range of solutions for package and freight delivery. In Ireland, UPS has a network of 176 sites that include parcel motels, which are self-service kiosks used for the collection and delivery of packages. These would be the main focus of this heavy duty waste removal project.
UPS had identified a need to upgrade its parcel motels across Ireland, and part of the project included visiting all 176 sites to lift the existing motels using crane trucks and disconnecting from existing power supplies. The project was critical to ensure the smooth functioning of UPS’s delivery network in Ireland and to ensure that no sites were disrupted during works
CONCEPT
The first phase involved conducting site checks to ensure that all the necessary preparations had been made for the lifting and removal of the existing parcel motels. The site manager worked closely with the health and safety officer to ensure that all necessary precautions were taken.
In the second phase, the team began lifting the existing parcel motels using crane trucks. The crane trucks were selected based on their capacity to lift heavy loads safely and efficiently.
The final phase involved the cleanup of all sites after the successful collection of the parcel motels. The team ensured that all debris and materials were cleared from the sites and disposed of appropriately. Each parcel motel was recycled with our partners United Metals in Limerick and certificates were provided to the client.
CHALLENGE
During the entire project, health and safety was given utmost importance. The health and safety officer worked closely with the site manager and crane truck operators to ensure that all lifting operations were conducted safely, and that all personnel and equipment were well-protected.
The team was also equipped with appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) such as hard hats, gloves, and safety boots, to ensure their safety during the lifting process. The use of crane trucks was carefully planned, and appropriate permits and approvals were obtained to ensure that the operation did not pose any risk to public safety.
RESULT
The successful completion of the project was a testament to the project team’s dedication and commitment to delivering quality work while prioritising health and safety. The project helped UPS to upgrade its parcel motels, ensuring that its delivery network in Ireland operates smoothly and efficiently. The project team’s use of crane trucks ensured that the heavy duty waste removal process was carried out safely, and no accidents or damage to property were reported during the operation.
